I'm thinking about going on a TV Strike.
No, TV didn't wrong me.... take that back, I'm sure it warped me somewhere along the line....
But I think I watch TOO MUCH TV. It's not even the good stuff. Not much Jerry Springer or Nip/Tuck, or MTV, or Reality TV. I mostly watch judge shows, psychologist shows, and Food Network- which is about 80% of my TV intake. What's wrong with that?
That is the reason why my sewing machine goes unused. The weeds in my garden threatening my tomato plants. The house going uncleaned until my husband decides it's gone too far (or I ask him to clean). My novels go unwritten. My books go unread.
God, this is so tragic.
That's it. I'm gonna do it. Starting tomorrow, Sunday, July 15, 2007, I will attempt to go without Television for at least 5 days (that's how long my "News Strike" lasted) or more. I hope to get some sewing done. I hope to finish reading at least one of the books I have going right now.
Perhaps, I will choose a movie to watch during meal times because I just can't sit in silence and eat. Jeez, gimme a break, we all got our weirdies. If I can keep from doing even that, I will try.
How I will manage to spend time with my TV attracted husband, I don't know. Maybe we can play more games. If someone eats lunch with me in the TV inhabited breakroom at work, I don't know how I will explain it to them. 'Guess I'll have to eat somewhere else....
I'll let you know how my 2nd Life Experiment goes!
***UPDATE 7/16/07***
Well, there's been a change in plans....
The GOOD NEWS is: I didn't watch ANY TV on Sunday (except 2 episodes of MASH on DVD). I completed my first sewing project all by myself Sunday, also. YEAH!! I made a wallet. It's so cool!
The BAD NEWS is: I watched TV today. It's 11:16am and I watched it for about 30 minutes. The house was too quiet and scary and I was about to eat my leftovers for breakfast and I just had to have SOMETHING to look at.... plus it was a really good episode of Judge Hatchett.
COMPROMISE: I will drastically reduce the amount of time spent watching TV. Keep in mind, there have been some days in the past where I have been home and literally watched TV all day long until about 6:00 at night. That's proposterous! I'm ashamed....
I know what you're thinking, "Do you have a job?" Yes, I work nights, 3 days a week. That leaves 4 days of me left to entertain myself at home.. somehow.
Anyway, I'm thinking about watching my soap today during lunch and that's it.
