I found a great, thought provoking story today. Then I read the message board where people vent about things related to the story. There were a few posts there that I truly agreed with; like when someone said that rude customers make customer service quality decline. Anyway, basically, the story is about how stores/companies are getting into a lot of self-service things lately. You know, like self-checkouts and things like that.
Mostly, what I've found is that people are such cry-babies!! Everywhere we go, we MUST HAVE OUR ASS KISSED BY SOMEONE WHO WORKS WHERE WE DO BUSINESS. Hello!!!! Who made you the Supremest Person In The World?!?!? Tell me how many starving children you've fed, and oh, maybe mention that cure for AIDS you discovered. Ass-kissing, then, might be in order.
Anyway, on the topic of self checkouts: People want to pay less for stuff when you have to check it out yourself. Wake up! Are we forgetting that when you buy a can of beans, you’re ALSO paying the guys who picked the beans, put them in the cans, and drove them there.. not JUST the person who DIDN’T check you out! Did you forget about that?
With all the money your tight-ass wants to save, hire someone to DO IT FOR YOU if it bothers you THAT much. Otherwise, SHUT UP or go stand in line to be checked out by a human and avoid going to the store when you KNOW only self-checkouts will be open. DUH!! Otherwise, you're right, take your business somewhere else where you will be happy. Good thinkin'!!
When did our standards get so high? When did people begin to think it's okay to be rude and be shitty to the first customer service employee they happen upon? I think there's WAY TOO MANY people out there that think something is "owed" to them.
I have never, never, ever been rude to a customer-service employee. Not as a teen, not as an adult. I don't know if I was just raised that way, or I've just always been happy and patient. Going to Walmart is never a happy time for me really, but I know that when I get there. I don't expect ANYTHING. I may not be able to find something, but I won't go looking for an employee to help me find it. I may not be greeted by anyone else but the old man at the door. I know I'll wait in a long line. I KNOW ALL THAT.
I don't expect anyone to be nice to me. My cashier may never speak to me, but I make damn sure I smile and thank her when she hands me my receipt because she is probably not that friendly because no one ever does what I just did.
I guess it's just my generation that don't remember full-service gas stations and not getting a computer to talk to when I call someplace. When I encounter a friendly person at a store or on the phone, it makes me SO happy that there's some hope out there.
I believe that if we continue to be a rude bunch of bitches and heathens, you can absolutely kiss "good customer service" good-bye.
