More Tales of Lost Time

One thing on Craigslist pet classifieds is the "just don't have time to care for him/her" excuse. With a dog, I can slightly understand, since dogs may want to play or sit with you or whatever. But still, not "having time" for a pet still seems like a lame, half-assed, lazy excuse.

When people say they "don't have time to care for" their cat and want to give/sell it, that just pisses me off. How long does it take to care for a cat?

You don't have time to give food and water? Maybe let the cat out/in, dangle a feather in his/her face, pet kitty a bit, and scoop out the litter box every once in a while, all of which may take 20 minutes if you did it all at once.... No time for that is simply tragic.

If you can take 20 minutes to do these things, how the hell do you have time to brush your teeth? Cook a meal? Watch the boob tube? Talk incessantly on your cell phone? Go out and party? Have friends over? Spend time with a loved one? Use the toilet?

A permissable argument for "no time" may be if you travel a lot and aren't home much for some logical reason (which partying is not a good reason). However, if you've had kitty for YEARS and now you've moved up the career ladder and are out of town every week, that may be excusable, but still sad.

Don't you have any FRIENDS who might be able to take Ol' Furry in for you? Of course not, it would be cooler to make a few quick bucks off something that took too much of your time.

Ugh.

We have cats, and they require very little maintenance besides cleaning the litter box. Feeding takes no time and they're not big fans of "play" and "pet," but when they do feel like getting a little attention, it doesn't take long.

Again, if you don't have time for a pet (especially a cat), how the hell do you have time for anything at all?
