The same old line.

In this story, following the death of 2 teens and injuring another, a mother speaks about losing her son just weeks after her husband died.

The whole story is very tragic, but it's mind boggling.

The mother of the teen speaks so well of her son. Helping raise his younger brother, becoming the new man of the house, going to college, etc.

Allegedly, he was driving over 100 mph, lost control of the truck and it flipped. (Another teen was killed on this same road days before.)

The mother said that same thing about him that people always say about kids who do ignorant things causing their death:

"He was a good kid."

I understand that, but..
What happened?!

I'm not trying to be mean. I'm not trying to be cynical. But if we have all these kids who are so "good" and lead wonderful lives full of promise, why do they suddenly get stupid and basically end up killing themselves or allowing themselves to be in situations that lead to their deaths? What?!

"He was a good kid." He wouldn't do anything like this. Okay, then what was it about today that made him go driving after he had been drinking at a party? What happened? Even if this was the first time he did it or it would have been the last time. WHAT HAPPENED?

What is it? It's just another thing I don't understand about this generation.
