I was thinking: does anyone ever read my blog? That was the first thing..
Then I thought, "I wonder if anyone ever asks, what about road rage incidents where the road rager shoots/kills/harms the driver who was 'causing the rage?'"
Don't understand?
Scenario: Man in SUV tailgates another SUV with a family of 3 in it. Family of 3 pull into a parking lot, afraid for their lives and what has been happening to them. Mean man in SUV follows them, pulls up next to them, shoots Dad in the head in the passenger seat in front of his 9 year-old son.
True story. Did they catch the shooter? I never found out.
Simply tragic.
So what about Mean Man in SUV? What do I think about him?
He needs help. He's probably got too much stress in his life caused by too much work and trouble at home. Only a psycho will follow a family off the highway and shoot one of the occupants. Only someone who should be in a little padded room. These people are everywhere. If they aren't straight psycho now, give it another year of stress, nagging, being in a hurry because you're late, working too many hours, short on money, etc, etc, etc.
This can be anyone's case. Not just the idiot who drives like he/she has a death wish (and maybe they do). This can effect anyone. Me, you, Ms. Jones at church, the quiet guy who sits next to you at work, your kid's friend's parent, your doctor, anybody.
I don't know when we'll all wake up and realize to spend time on ourselves. Slow down. Calm down. Say "no." Just breathe. Do things that make us happy once in a while.
Back in the 60s and 70s, people didn't work 50-60 hours a week. They didn't work on Sunday. They did fun things (yeah, drugs too, but.. you know, it's worse now). They didn't have cell phones or computers. They didn't have MySpace. They didn't have media proclaiming Britney Spears' custody battle the top news story of the day.
Since the 80s and 90s, we've gone to hell. Was it a more demanding economy? What? What went wrong?
I guess all we need is Angelina Jolie to make a TV commercial telling everyone to make time for themselves and be calm (and leave earlier!!). That's about the only way to start a trend these days....
