Looking back in my drafts of posts, I never published the one I wrote based on this thought. I'm not going to publish that blog now either, but sometimes I wonder if people think the way I do on this.
The death toll in Iraq has reached at least 4,000 today. We're still there, whether you think we need to be or not. I wish we didn't have to be over there, thus the 4,000 deaths and the mental state of soldiers who return, etc.
But almost every time I see someone being beligerent and rude to someone else, or driving like an ass (because you know by now that's my biggest pet peeve), etc, I think to myself:
Are we worth fighting for?
I know it's supposed to be for our freedom. And we're hella free, trust me. We're still doing what we want. But most of us have forgotten.
I know that the troops voluntarily enlisted therefore had a tremendous possibility of going to Iraq so they knew it was coming. I know that the war shouldn't make us "scared" of everything and we should all go about our lives normally or whatever. But we're still living like tomorrow is the last day we're the United States of America. Almost everyone lives each day like it's their last. Even if you're the agressor, the speaker, the bad driver, YOU are also paying for it in the end with the thought of looking back and seeing how free you are thanks to the soldiers that lived there and died for you.
When the troops come home and the war is over, will you be thankful? Will you even remember there was a war? Will we even be able to watch the news and find out if the war is over if it happens to be the same day Britney Spears has another child? I digress.
Remember the people who get shot at every day, fighting for your freedom and right to degrade your neighbor, scare your fellow driver, and buy your gas-chugging SUV.
Remember that.
