At what point does a Doctor's office become so busy that wait times are hours long? And at what point does the management there say, "Hey, we need to do something about the masses of people who come in here," but they don't because the office has money coming in like you wouldn't believe..
I used to work at a Doctor's office that stayed busy all the time. Sure, they have 3 Doctors and several PA's in the whole "complex" area, but one group of a Doctor and 3-4 PAs were seeing over 300 patients in one day. At this certain "group," most of the offices were this way. Like herding cattle in, injecting them, and sending them on their way.
I can't believe I worked there for a year and a half!
Places like this.... Do they ever take the time to really notice that something serious is going on with the patient? Do the Doctor's suspect it, but send the patient to a specialist to deal with?
It's so scary. High volume doctor's offices can't be good. I wonder if there will be a new law or a widely understood rule that offices can't see more than 200 patients a day? That's this calculation:
4 15 minute appointments per hour
Office is open 8am - 7pm, that's 11 straight hours (lunches staggered)
11 x 4 is 44 patients in a whole day for 1 Provider
4 Providers seeing 176 total that day.
Factor in the people who "walk-in" to be seen.... That's about 200 patients all day. Still a lot but....
Scary.
